The Strand Difference
Built from thousands of soft rubber strands.
Our Koosh ball isn’t a foam ball, it isn’t a stress ball, and it definitely isn’t a hard rubber ball. It’s a tightly tied bundle of soft latex strands that grips the air, lands softly, and practically catches itself — which is exactly why it became a 90s icon and why kids still love it today.
- Soft strands mean no bruises, no broken lamps
- Easy to grab — perfect for early hand-eye coordination
- Quiet indoor play that parents actually approve of
- Squeezable texture that doubles as a fidget toy
A 90s Original
The toy that defined a decade of indoor catch.
If you grew up in the late 80s or 90s, you knew the Koosh ball by feel. It showed up in classrooms, on talk shows, in lunchboxes, and on Rosie O’Donnell’s stage. Today the same classic Kooshball is back in homes, joined by Mondo giants, mini keychains, paddle sets, and slingshot launchers — but the soul of it has never changed.
- The original Koosh ball design, faithfully reborn
- Classic colors plus rainbow, purple, green, pink, blue, red, orange, and yellow
- Vintage 90s edition for collectors and nostalgia gifts
- Paddle games, launchers, and character editions for new fans
Three Generations of Koosh Stories
From classroom calming tools to backyard catch with the cousins, here’s how the Kooshball keeps finding its way into people’s lives.
The Classroom Calmer
I teach second grade and the Koosh balls live on my reading corner shelf. Kids who can’t sit still hold one while we read and suddenly they can. It’s not magic — it’s just the right texture in the right hand at the right moment. We’ve gone through a Koosh ball bulk pack every year, and not one has fallen apart.
The Reunion Toy
I bought a Giant Koosh Ball for our family reunion thinking it would be a kids’ thing. Within an hour every adult cousin had abandoned their drinks to play Mondo Koosh catch on the lawn. My uncle threw out his shoulder. We have not stopped laughing about it. Best $20 I spent all summer.
The Nostalgia Gift
My husband turned 40 and I tracked down a Koosh ball 90s edition for his gift basket. He picked it up, did the same hand-toss he’d done as a kid, and got the goofiest grin on his face. Now there’s a rainbow Koosh ball on his desk at work. Some toys time-travel better than others.
Why Kooshball Isn’t Just Another Rubber Ball
A lot of toys try to copy the look. Almost none of them copy the feel. Here’s what sets the official Koosh ball apart from generic strand-ball knockoffs.
Everything You Wanted to Ask About Kooshball
Quick answers to the questions we hear most often — from first-time buyers and lifelong Koosh ball fans.
What is a Koosh ball, exactly?
A Koosh ball is a soft toy made from thousands of thin rubber latex strands tied together at the center. The strands fan out into a fuzzy, easy-to-grip ball that’s soft enough for indoor catch, light enough to throw without breaking anything, and squeezable enough to work as a fidget toy. Our Kooshball is the original design first introduced in 1987 — that boing-y, grippy feel is the whole reason it became a 90s classic.
What’s the difference between a classic, Mondo, and mini Koosh ball?
The classic Koosh ball is roughly the size of a tennis ball — perfect for one-handed catch and the original size most people remember. The Mondo Koosh ball (also called the giant Koosh ball) is significantly larger, built for group play and big two-handed throws. The mini Koosh ball is keychain-sized — small enough to clip to a backpack or carry in a pocket. Same rubber-strand DNA across the entire Kooshball lineup, just different scales of fun.
Are Koosh balls safe for kids and pets?
The Koosh ball was designed from the start to be a softer, safer alternative to hard rubber balls — that was Scott Stillinger’s whole goal when he invented it. The strands are soft latex, the ball won’t bruise furniture or fingers, and it lands quietly. As with any toy, we recommend Kooshballs for ages 3 and up because the strands can be chewed if left with very young children or unsupervised pets, and they’re meant for human hands, not dog teeth.
Are these the same Koosh balls from the 90s?
Yes — the Kooshball you see here is the same rubber-strand design that became famous in the late 80s and 90s. The construction, the feel, the boing, the colors that came to define a decade of indoor play — all faithfully preserved. We also offer a dedicated Koosh ball 90s edition for nostalgia buyers and a vintage Koosh ball line for collectors who want that throwback look on a desk or shelf.
